Elementary

From the Desk of Jim Keen

Welcome to your student's first years of formal education. Our elementary department at UC Academy will be an outstanding beginning to a fine academic experience.

I have been working in Christian education since 1974. Fifteen of those years were spent in the classroom full-time. As an administrator, I love to mentor and work with teachers to enhance their skills as well as collaborate with those teachers to build a strong academic program. Our staff works diligently to make UC Academy a school that excels at education and honors our Lord.

The cornerstone of an excellent education must begin with outstanding teachers. Our staff has been chosen because of their Christian character and strong ability to communicate, connect with students and inspire learning. To ensure success in the classroom, we have carefully selected curricula, and we review it regularly in order to ensure that our students are receiving an excellent academic education.

At UC Academy, learning extends beyond the classroom. Each class will take a variety of field trips to enhance and expand their classroom learning. Some trips are close to school, while others may take them a little farther away to places such as San Diego. We are also very active in our community. We get to know our local community helpers, and we actively pursue opportunities to reach out and serve others. Our service extends beyond the community and often to the far reaches of our globe. We sent assistance to Japan after their terrible earthquake; we helped in the gulf coast after hurricane Katrina; and we are in the process of becoming a sister school to a school in Africa.

Education is incomplete without applying God's Word to the process. Each grade level has daily formal Bible instruction and weekly class chapels, and, in addition, everything we teach is from a Biblical perspective. The students will hear as much about God in science discussion as they will during their actual Bible class! We know that God made all of us with a desire to get to know Him, and we structure our classes to help the students met a personal God who loves them and wants them to grow and flourish.

I invite you to come for a personal visit to our elementary school program. It's a great place for your child to flourish!

Many blessings,
