FROM THE DESK OF COUNSELOR LORRAINE HOY
Welcome to UC Academy! It is a joy to serve as the High School Guidance Counselor, and I am looking forward to a wonderful year of watching God work in amazing ways in the lives of our students. I began my journey in education in 1995, and I have taught elementary through high school students in various public and private schools in Texas and Washington. After coming to California in 2010, I settled in at Upland Christian Academy teaching in our junior high school. As a classroom teacher, I have always been passionate about helping my students strive for success in their studies as they prepare for the next phase of their education. As the Guidance Counselor at UC Academy, I can use that passion to provide support for our students as they, too, strive for success and prepare for college.
The mission of UC Academy is to educate students by integrating academic excellence with a Christian worldview, equipping them to impact their world for Christ. The office of the Guidance Counselor seeks to help fulfill this mission by partnering with parents, teachers, staff, and students to further each student’s academic and spiritual development in order for them to become the person God intended them to be. I look forward to meeting with each student throughout the year to guide them as they seek after God’s plan, determining their aspirations for life after high school and, in particular, finding the college that is the best fit for them to fulfill those aspirations.
My life verse is Philippians 1:6—“And I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns.”
Each of us is a work in progress, and it is my privilege to walk with each student throughout his or her high school career, knowing that God is at work with us and through us.
