College Prep Curriculum


College-Prep Focus: UCA High School courses align with and are approved by the University of California and the California State systems.


UCA Graduation Requirements

University of California Admission Requirements*

California State College & University


4 years

4 years college prep including frequent writing and reading of classic and
modern literature

Same as University of California


3 years

3 years to include Algebra, Geometry, Intermediate Algebra or higher levels (4 years recommended)

Same as University of California


2 years

2 years lab science in 2 of 3 disciplines of Biology, Chemistry or Physics (3 years recommended)

1 year physical science (Chemistry or Physics)
1 year biological science (Biology or Anatomy & Physiology)

Social Science

World History-1 year
U.S. History-1 year
Government-1 semester
Economics-1 semester

2 years – To include 1 year of World History and 1 year of U.S. History or 1 year of World History and 1 semester of U.S. History and 1 semester of American Government

2 years – U.S. History and Social Science

Foreign Language

2 years of same foreign language

2 years of same foreign language (3 years recommended)

Same as University of California; however, students with competency in a language other than English may qualify for an exemption

Visual Arts & Performing Arts

1 year of art or choir

1 year (of the same course), including dance, drama, music or visual art

Same as University of California

Specified Electives

College preparatory electives-60 credits taken from the following:  Bible (required for each semester of attendance at UCA), History, English, Advanced Math, Lab Science, Foreign Language, Social Science,  Computer, approved Fine Arts or Performing Arts

2 semesters of any college preparatory classes in social science, English, mathematics, visual and performing arts, lab science, or foreign language

Physical Education/Athletics

Seven Advanced Placement (AP) classes are available at UCA: Biology, Calculus AB, English Literature, American Government, Psychology, Studio Art 2D, and US History.

*University of California and California State requires a “C” or better in all required subjects.
**University of California requires that at least 7 of the 15 required courses must be taken in the last 2 years of high school.
